P38A Tailgate seal rubber is how much!!! :-O

I am gob-smacked.
However.... before I go and spend such a ridiculous amount of money I think I shall sit inside the vehicle while someone plays a hose set on "rain-water" setting all over the rear of the vehicle and see if I can spot the method by which the water is getting in there.
Alternatively, I might be tempted to drill a blooming hole in the lowest point in the wheel-well that I can find and let gravity sort it out for me.
What's the usual MO approach out there?

Thanks @gold rover , It doesn't look at all like the part that's in there, but you never know. ;-)
Good to know there are samples out there. Will sit in the car while SWMBO uses the hose on it to see if its really the rubber first.

I seam to recall mention of a service bulletin on leaking tailgates and the fix was to bend the flange the seal fits on so it pushes the seal against the tailgate a bit more, I may well be wrong and it was the later models.

Correct, the flange was bent outwards 5 mm in the area of the bend and either side of were the upper and lower tail gates meet.
