Tailgate not clicking shut

New here! I've got an L405 and the auto upper tailgate is not clicking shut. It closes ok but wont click shut hence I can't lock the car. Replaced both batteries in car and had them programmed to car. Issue was there before batteries were replaced by the way. The issue seems to be intermittent too. Have greased the lock mechanism too. Also reset the tailgate to no avail.

Cheap enough if it's correct for your vehicle. Sure it will be easy enough to change and a couple of hundred quid cheaper than one hours labour at a Land Rover dealer.

Thx for your reply. I will give it a go. Will ask my local LR specialist to fit it. They are pretty reasonably priced as neither myself or hubby are not confident enough to replace. May I ask why you think the issue is the boot catch. It's odd that the tailgate closes no problem manually and will close auto on occasion.

At £35 it's the cheapest DIY option to rule it out.
As the catch goes onto its first position the cable, in the 2nd unit, pulls the tailgate onto the second position of the catch.
Of course it could be an electrical issue but that will be harder and more difficult (expensive) to diagnose.
The tailgate also has trap sensors which play up at times, also low voltage plays havoc with convenience functions.
If you have a local LR specialist speak to them first and see what they say, might have dealt with the issue before.
I have changed one before and if you have some general DIY tools they are easy to change. You will most likely find a video on YouTube.
Please let us know how you get on and hopefully the cheaper option fixes it.

The video makes it look harder than it actually is as his tailgate is stuck closed, the inner trim is far easier to remove with the tailgate open. Regardless of that it shows you how it operates.
