I still cant open my rear door, the card is off, the handle seems to move the full range, the button goes up and down, cant see any way of opening it, does anybody know how , cheers guys. 2000 td5 es

pleased to say that it is now mended, had to force hand in where it didnt really fit and force the lock down after giving it a right dousing with wd40, opened door, took mechanism out and thoroughly cleaned with wd and a paint brush. its now like a swiss watch, it was clogged up with grit, probably from the maniac that sand blasted the underside

Had the same problem with mine after it was stood for 18 months. Once you get it open (from the inside) it's easy enough to sort out.

The handle on the outside wouldn't budge, so took the interior panel off - mechnism seemed to be working ok when you pulled the inside handle but still wouldn't open. After playing around shoving my fingers in to try and free in, I found another catch, flicked it across and hey presto! It looks like the outside handle was stuck and the inside childlock was on, or maybe it was just stuck and needed freeing by hand first. Greased up now and all working 'as new'.

When I was drilling my back door to fit the roof ladder, the drill bit went through and managed to pop one of the link retaining clips off, which meant I had to strip down the door to get it open. That was the easy part, retrieving the retaining clip from the bowels of the door was tricky enough but I then found it was impossible to put the link back in its socket and fit the clip whilst the lock mechanism was in the door. I had to remove the entire lock mech from the door which meant removing all the other links and clips then fit the one that had popped off then refit the lock and rebuild it in the door. The whole job took me about 3 hours because it was so frustrating! Not a job I ever wish to do again.

I have a similar problem to the last post. I also have a retaining clip that has not only come off but has completely gone missing.
My question is, is there an alternative method / clip that can be used to keep the rod in place ??
