Swivel pin housing halshaft bearing

I'm doing a front axle rebuild on my SIII and I'm planning on replacing both front swivel housings and the big bearings pressed into them which support the halshafts. Do these bearings come complete with the inner race? It looks like it might be a bit tricky getting the inner race off the halfshafts. Has anyone done this? Any tips?
 
a wise old man recently told me he uses one of those freezer kits designed to freeze water pipes while you work on them on the race - apparently it practically drops out

but dont touch it with bare flesh while it's froozen unless you really do want to loose a few layers of skin off yer finger tips
 
You can get spray cans for the purpose, a bit cheaper, you'd need a few though, I used to use the stuff to find faults in the electronics business.
 
carnt you just change the big ball things without pressing out brarings and things like that im starting to think this landy job is to mutch

those silly little cans from RS designed to cool down an IC by a few degrees arent going to do much to a good few kilos of metal
 
Freezing it aint gonna do much good!!!, itll shrink it and make it grip more. Ya wanna get a good blow torch heat it right up and using a drift, hit it off. Simples!, may be even another approch would be to get a good big chisel and split the inner race?. Hope this is of help.

I think one of you is referring to the bearing and one of you the race.

Fenby are you referring to this?

Land Rover series front axle bearing collar 90217398 on eBay (end time 31-Aug-09 13:59:31 BST)

If it is i've seen someone take a grinder and grind it flat on one side (stopping before you get to the shaft itself) then split it with a chisel. Otherwise drill a series of holes along it and likewise split with chisel.

If this isn't what your talking about, i'll shut up

There are 3 bits pressed onto the halfshaft inboard of the UJ. First is conical shaped collar, next is the inner race of the bearing, and lastly is the collar in that eBay listing which is what the seal runs on.
 
I found that a good amount of heat works good!, i did have the grind a flat and hit it with a hammer an chisel as plan B, but the heat did the trick on both shafts.

As for the roller bearing in the chrome swivel ball, i just pressed them out, there not a real tight fit the outer races, easy peasy....

Its a Landrover!, Everything is repairable with hammer, angle grinder, and brute force!!!:D
