Swivel oil seal not sealing?

Your right about the socket.

My latest one has been a nightmare as each locknut was on extremely tight.

Even broke a screwdriver trying to loosen one. A socket and long bar would have made that bit easier but I would probably still use the hub socket to tighten as I would not want to risk overdoing it.
 
its not a matter of torque or 1/4 of a turn etc its to set bearings with no freeplay and little preload, a wheel bearing if new would need 3 thou ish preload a used bearing none
 
I see where i went wrong,... I only did the first nut up hand tight then a little tighter with screwdriver.

Ill try tightening them some more like you say and they should be ok then :)

What i mean is i tightened the hub nut up with the box spanner in my hand then i put the screw drive through it and give it a turn.

Was you picturing me with hammer and screwdriver on the nut banging away?

Yes! Apologies.

When I took one of my rear hubs apart for the first time the hub nut was ina right state from someone having used a screwdriver and hammer to tighten it!
