Swivel Joint Overfilling

Hi
I have inadvertently filled the swivel joints on my 96' Defender 300TDI up with EP90 to the underside of the 'fill plug' rather than the 'level plugs' (which it turns out are seized with the heaxaganol bolt heads so burred/ worn I am unable to get them out).

Is this a cause for concern i.e. should I be draining some out (and if so anybody got any tips re: how to check the levels in the absence of being able to get the 'level plugs' out)?

The top plug with the 1/2" square socket is the filler plug, and the bottom 1/2" plug is for draining.

I've never had an axle with a hex-head level indicator!

Are you sure that you are not confusing it with the steering stop adjustment screw?

I have a 1996 300tdi 90 and I have a drain, level and filler plug. You could drain whats in and then fill with a one shot grease sachet, you will know you have the right quantity of grease in then. Otherwise to get the level plug out try to knock an undersized bi hex socket on to grip into the plug try shocking it first with a hammer too.

My 96 300 uses one shot with no level plug. If you do actually have a rounded fastener then it may be worth trying / buying an Irwin extractor set or try filing the head square and use a spanner

If they are overfilled, then yes it is a major cause for concern because the excess will end up all over your brake discs.
Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for your prompt responses. I am about to set of on my hols in it so don't have too much time to sort - my thoughts are to syringe/ suck out approx. 1/2 a pint (as I understand each side takes 1 pint) via the filler plug?

Why not just remove the drain plug and start again or am I missing something?
