Swivel housing experts needed

Hey guys,

I've taken off my swivel, notice that the one i've pulled out has this part... any context?

Which doesn't have this part.. I jumped the gun at ordering parts before I took the thing off! Have I got the wrong one?

I did order the one based off the VIN however think this is a 200tdi axel right? (it has the oil drain plug on the housing, so pre grease times)

Are the swivel housings the same also? if so can I just order 2 of these for a quick win? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334384759078

Your link goes to "castor corrected housings" not needed unless you have a lift.
What you have there is a Railko bush. It is what I have on my 1990 Ninety in the top of swivel. Later trucks have a taper roller both sides.
If the chrome surface is ok on your housings then the kit you link to will sort out any play and leaks.
Any small pits in the ball can be filled to make surface smooth again.

I have a 2" lift, but the kit has 2 bears and a smaller pin. The housing itself looks like it only takes in the bigger pin.

They both have wear and need replacing.

Can I retrofit this kit instead in the same old housing? or do I have to get the same swivels and pins etc?

Have a look at this thread from when I was in a similar situation to you. The last post has a link to the kit I bought. My axles have the Railko non abs swivels.

Many defenders are "bitsas". They have had so many parts added in their lifetime that the use of a vin number to get parts is difficult. Ordering the correct parts sometimes isn't easy and often requires investigation as to what you actually have rather than what the vin number says you should have before ordering parts. A typical example is my axle as I have changed axle cases front and back, so if you use the number stamped on the axle case for identification then you will order the wrong parts!

One more thing to take into consideration. This forum is a great source of information as are the youtube posters Britannica Restorations and trailer fitters toolbox. However sometimes people share information that they believe to be correct but may not be accurate for your vehicle due to possible changes in the past. You will come to notice that when you see three different posters and each has different opinions as to what is correct. Also people can only give you advice based on the information you give, and giving only the model and year is often not enough. Photos are always helpful as it helps those knowledgeable folk on here identify what we have and give advice accordingly.
