Afternoon,

I'm looking for a swing away carrier that will fit a Defender double cab with the drop down tailgate as well as accommodate a 285/75 tyre. Any suggestions?

They also seem to vary in price from £130 to £500+!

With the drop down tailgate you have limited choice of swing away wheel carriers.

In realistic terms in the UK the choices are the mild steel swingaway wheel carrier from Safari Equip available here Involves drilling the top cap and you may have to move the nearside rope cleat for the soft top canvas.

Alternative is the stainless steel version from Nakatanenga available here Needs a couple of holes in rear crossmember enlarging.

The mild steel Allisport version is available here

Another alternative is the Kaymar one from Outback Import in France for about £1,000.

Cheers! the Safari one looks decent and well priced! No soft top canvas as its a 110 Double Cab

Or you could bolt the wheel on the bulkhead behind the seats.....Free

I don't want it there, takes up unnecessary space and a pain in the ass to get to if needed...

Yeah- a good price compared to the competition, but perhaps not such a good deal if you want some after-sales support. I bought one from them 18 months ago, stored it for a year before trying to fit it but found I'd lost the instructions. 6 attempts (e-mail and phone calls) to get something sent and they ignored me every time. I even offered to buy one of their side lockers if they responded but got nothing.
