Freelander 1 Swapping transfer box (IRD) Help

Hi all,
Will a 2004 Transfer box off a 2.0 diesel fit on a 1999 1.8 petrol?

I know all gearboxes are different but i just wanted to check the IRD as i have a whine from that area & didn't want to go spending one and a half hundred quid if i could get away with it.
The whine/whistle goes louder as you accelerate through the gears (More from 3rd upwards) and stops when you take your foot off the accelerator or slow down.
I had the gearbox bearings - all brand new - done around 3-4 months ago so i really am ruling that out.
I have also had the prop removed.

Any help is appreciated before i have to start spending again.

My understanding is that it should - but you'll need to take all the brackets etc from your original 1.8 unit. 2nd opinion would be needed!
