hi where can i buy a lift kit for my series 3 i have been thru ebay so many times and cant find anything .
can someone make 1 ? also if 1 was made how do you extend the shocks or find longer series 3 ones from
 
the reason you can't find any is because YOU DON'T FECKIN NEED 'EM!!!! it would be gay and really stupid to lift a SIII because it's already at the perfect height:rolleyes:
 
There are no suspension lift as for a Series.

You can fit the longer (1 tonne?) shackles but you do end up with problem with the front steering and pinion geometry; unless......you also add the (1 tonne) front spring hangers but that requires some welding.

What is it that you are trying to achieve? as none of this will help with ground clearance. Waaaaay back in the early 80s, fitting 900s to a SWB Series was a often used trick for the green lane brigade. (this is of course pre-play days :) )
 
i just wounderd to be honest as i now all the mods you can get for the 90s and wounderd if it was the same sorta thing never been offroading and just bought it as a toy to play with weekends and greenlaning as im 19 young n full of energy and have a modifed sax n just wanna see wat mods a can do to this for pay and play days etc and green laning just got 2 warn x5 winches just seein wht else i can do
 
The rear suspension on the SIII is really easy to lift. I found this rather simple link while surfing for something else. The front is another story, a lot of work for very little gain. As has ben said before no matter how high you lift the chassis the diffs are still always in the same place, For clearance of under body or fuel cells its worth it but you cant raise the diff heights without changing the axles. Even then its a minimal gain and very costly. Good luck with your greenlaneing

cheers been looking into it and the 1 tonne shackes may be good to fit i have been asking about this on a few forums and found out best mods to do are steering guard and a good set of tyres (insa turbo 16s) i have it on disco steel rims at the mo and will see about sump guard and tank guard possible gearbox guard etc and sliders
 
Okay here goes, this could possibly be the stupidest thing ever posted. I was out working at my 109 there earlier on and was just looking at the axles. Why can the axle not be dropped out and mounted under the spring? From what I can see it's a matter of rewelding mounting plates to the opposite side of the axle and doing a wee bit of working out to get the new angle so the diff and drive shaft line up nice and not stress the U.J. On the front the only problem I see is extending the steering arm from the drop arm out to the nearside hub. Again some working out to get the diff angle nice to keep the U.J. happy. So, what have I missed? This would in theory give about 4-6 in's of lift.
 
Well I have a suggestion on the lines of fenbys, maybe not as obvious.
To have the axle under the leafs, no welding is required, just remove the axle turn it over the other way and bolt it on upside down on the other side of the leafs, everything will line up.
 
prop shaft angles, awful handling, springwind up - loads of other reasons why it aint done on landies - do a :search: for "spring over" - its been discussed many times.
 
Honestly I have been offroading competive trials and greenlaning for aslong as I could legally drive aswell as driving offroad before I could legally and I have never really been happy with steering guards. If you are going to damage your steering drive around it. I have bent track rods yes, but never damaged any other steering component. Mabe its luck mabe not. I have dug my drop arm in after a vertical drop and it wasnt damaged If I had a guard fitted it may well have hindered that decent by digging in and throwing me over. Pros and cons I'm not a fan of steering guards. I have never had the need and think many on the market hnder more than help. Jai
 
Parabolic springs give a lift of about 1 to 1.5 inches and they are not as deep as the standard springs so the U-bolt plates are higher up, which means a bit more clearance under the axles. 238/85 R16 tyres are about 32" tall which is taller than many 750 x 16 tyres which can be as little as 29" tall, so they could give 1.5" extra clearance under the diffs. I plan on making a belly plate to stop the gearbox and engine x-member from getting caught on tree stumps and rocks.
 
iv got a full set of 1 ton shackles bush and bolts was gonna do mine but think its goin soon pm me
 
dr pepper correct me if im wrong but if you just fliped the axle then it would be trying to go backwards ?

i guess if you kept the diff the same and just fliped the axle casing that might work

thinking about it the diff isnt centre of the axle is it so it would never work

:clap2: I've been saying that for years as well. Just get HD arms if you want. Lighter and less like a plough :)
 
Cheers I thought I was the only person, Why would anybody want to bolt on a big heavy lump of Ally or even steel that will make your ground clearance less to get hooked up on things is beyond me. Add to that if you do break anything a pain in the ass to get spanners around if need be.

Most 99% of triallers and most comp motors have no need and they do stupid extreme things compared to most peoples idea of extreme offroading.
 
Don't do spring over axle for loads of reasons.
1 ton shackles give about an inch of lift.
parabolics about 1-2 inches.
Don't do steering guard, the front leafs do just as well, guard reduces clearance and acts like a plough.
For more under diff clearance fit bigger tyres.

but remember bigger tyres, means:
More rotating mass,
Brakes need to be in good condition,
Steering lock is more limited,
Gearing is seriously affected,
Bodywork mods,
Bumpstop mods,
In some cases bumper mods,
The list is quite long.

Pros and cons bigger tyres do give lots of room under your diffs. Which always helps. But if you go too big can bring other problems. I think 900x16 Is the limit for me on rover axles any bigger and its stronger portals with diff locks. Even LR had different gear ratio gearboxes that are mega expensive for 1 tons. perfect for a trials motor. Jai
