Hi all im new to the forum but already helped me out with the cruise control replacing perished rubber tubing.I recently bought a 4.6 hse p38 its a 1996 occasionally i get a EAS fault comes up suspension does not drop or raise if i turn engine off and leave keys in the fault clears could it be a faulty sensor or do i need to plug it in and read faults any help much appreciated cheers Alan

You have what is called a soft fault - one that clears when the engine is restarted, these are usually caused by height sensors.

If you can't get the thing plugged in you can use a multimeter on the resistance setting to find the dodgy sensor. Put the vehicle into the highest setting and then turn off the engine, open the tailgate and a door and get underneath and remove each sensor in turn, monitor its resistance value through its range of movement and see if you get readings that are the same as it's move, so, at one point it would be one value, then continue moving and still be at that value or jump around.

It is possible to swap the sensors between left and right sides so if you can find the dodgy sensor try swapping it over with the other one on the other side of the vehicle.

Hi Wills thanks for that now another question where are the ride height sensors fitted are there 2 of them or 4 as i said im a RR novice love the vehicle and will use it for towing once again thanks for any help cheers alan

4 of them - two of them linked onto the front radius arms and two of them linked to the rear trailing links.

Not too difficult to spot when you are under the vehicle.

Have you got a copy of RAVE? This should help you out with their location and the removing/re-fitting of them.

I would think you can but the problem is they might already be on there because they are dodgy. Its a bit like pot luck with some of the second hand stuff for P38's on eBay.

Hi, I was hoping someone can help me, My range rover currently has a problem and the EAS will not inflate and is on the bump stops displaying the "slow 35 mph max" message! It started once a week displaying "EAS fault" on the dash but this would dis-appear before a return journey then the rear right corner would sometimes be low! then on one journey the car started beeping and the 35mph message came up, the car went down on to the bump stops. I brought the cable for the EAS diagnostics software and got an error "rr valve stuck closed" I have since replaced the rr solenoid valve but the EAS still will not inflate. I have since looked on here and now I don't know what to try!! Please help thanks Paul.
