I have recently brought a discovery and the air suspension seems to have stopped self leveling. If I put a heavy load on the back it doesn't seem to level. Although it seems to ride at normally height unloaded. Also if I press the off road button on the dash, it just keeps flashing and the back does not rise as it should. Anyone got some Ideas on what could be wrong or where to start looking ?

Hi Tim, welcome to the best Landrover site ,I ve had mine for 9 mths and learnt more on here than from a workshop manual .
By heavy load what do you mean internal or a trailer?
My own 2001 TD5 Auto with SLS is dependent on how much weight is on the back axle as to how much the back end comes down. There is a certain amount of compression but as long as you don't see the top of the back tyres touching the arches you shouldnt really have a problem, best way is to load up and spray soapy water on all connections including the bags remember to check the compressor connections as well ( Under the passenger sill ).

As for the off road mode it moves about as quick as a glacier on mine but eventually get s there. Try closing the drivers door and function the button then physically put a tape on it as it is quite hard to see it moving.

Good luck

Hi, could also be that your compreesor is playing up. Recently changed mine, listen to see if it makes an unusally loud or attling noise whilst pumping.

I have found the compressor. If I close the doors and press the raise suspension button through the window the compressor doesn't seem to be doing anything. Can you normally feel or hear it running if you take the cover off.
Are there any checks that I can do to see if it is a faulty compressor ?
I guess if I undo the hoses that the air will escape and the suspension will come down. Without a compressor working I guess I'II be stuck to raise it again.

Hiya Tim,

I've got a 2003 Disco and quite Frankly I'm confused about all this air suspension stuff.

I don't know if anyone can actually shed some light on how its suposed to work but this is how mine operates:-

Start Car - Suspension Rises by about 50mm over a period of about 30 seconds.

Kids jump in the back - back drops a bit then rises again.

Car rides - no noticable inflating / deflating

Stop Car turn engine off - Sudden Hiss and quick release of pressure -car drops about 50mm

Is this right or what??

Carlos
