I had a rattle from a strut but it was an old one. I tried every Bush and linkage before finding the issue
Maybe worth swapping it with a used one to see if it makes a difference.
On another car I had a rattle from a coin that got into the sill. It drove me mad rattling and rolling around until I squirted a load of oil into the sill and never heard it again. ;)

Had Covid between Christmas and the beginning of the New Year so did't get chance to do anything but I have finally sorted the noise at the rear.

Took all the rear suspension off checked everything and there was nothing wrong with anything there. Took the rear damper off checked the top mount and could't see any problems with that, but as it was the only piece I hadn't replaced I purchased new one.

One I had removed the spring from the strut it was obvious what the problem was, the lower mounting cup washer was upside down and was rubbing on the top mount. Some fool had fitted it wrong when building up the new suspension they had fitted (This would be me:oops:) how bloody silly did I feel but at least I have cured the noise at the rear.

The noise at the front is still bugging me, different noise to the rear but I have checked the washers and these are all good. The front I have replaced for a second time the drop links and the rear wishbone bush. Normal driving is absolutely fine but if you drop off a curb or over a large speed bump it is very clunky. Both lower arms replaced, both drop links (twice), all bushes including anti roll bar bushes and I have replaced the top mount on one side to rule that out.

I have tried it without the drop links fitted and it still makes the noise.

I feel your pain bloody Freelanders !

Drive Shaft?
Happens on both sides do don’t think it is driveshafts.

Had you looked at the diff mounts, or the propshaft mounts.

All new mounts and bushes already fitted. The rear is now all sorted, it is just the fronts that make a noise if you go over speed bumps, perfect at all other times.

The only thing I can think of is it is the poly bushes I have fitted to the anti roll bar?

Are you sure it's not the ARB moving still? If the collars have come loose because of corrosion, new bushes alone will not fix it. You'll need to fit some new split collars or hose clips to stop it moving from side to side and hitting the subframe.

Also, ARB with support collar missing or damaged can slide to one side and hit on strut. Have a look and check it is clear and, as above, check the retaining collars are still on the ARB at the side of the bushes. They rot off and fracture.

Hi,

Strut top can makes noise, any part with rubber on it can makes an annoying sound ...
Tie rod ends can make noise, check if there is any play ...
Engine mount ?
