Have had a search about and cant really find the info I a looking for so who better to ask than you lot of grumpy.... sorry I mean experienced landy owners :D

Currently I have got the Terrafirma +2 medium duty springs and standard length Terrafirma shocks, which I have hated since the day I fitted them for lots of different reasons. I think it is time for a change and was considering changing the springs to Bearmach HD or Britpart HD ones. Does anyone have any direct comparisons between the two as ideally I want something softer than what I have on there now as the ride quality with the Terras is bloody terrible. They are way too stiff.

Also, while I am at it I want to improve the shocks as I am looking for better articulation which I obviously dont get from the standard height shocks that i have at the moment. I managed to bottom out the shocks on the off road course at the bristol and west show on the weekend which almost cost me a huge dentist bill :) The back end came down with one huge bang!!

Are the pro comp shocks much better than what I have now?? Would be looking at the +2 shocks with relocation cones for the springs.

Pro comp and bearmach are ok,
Don't get britpart shocks,
Had a set for a year and they were shot.
Friend put some on the rear and had been a month and the top pollybush had broken apart and was just the outer washer holding the shock in place.

Really depends how much you want to spend,
If you want more travel get some terrafirma +5"s with mounts.
If you want to go extreme travel go to RAC parts and they will do you a full twister kit that I'm running.
And of course with longer shocks means you'll want cranked or jointed trailing arms to gain the most and of course longer brake pipes and wide angle/ spaced props to stop them binding.

If you just want a little more travel just get some decent +2" shocks like terrifirma and that would make it back to standard over being -2" from the lift.

Cheers. Not looking for nothing extreme just a little more than what I have now. Most important part is softer springs because for me the TF's are way to stiff thats why I am hoping there is someone that has used the TF's and can compare them to either Britpart HD's or Bearmach HD's. Will not be using britpart shocks!! Also, will not be using any other TF shocks as the quality on them has been terrible. Both shocks and springs have rusted very badly and look worse than the 25 year old ones I took off the Landy within a very short time.

Old man emu shocks are some the best out there, get a set of +2" and that will get it back to normal articulation, but then you have to pay for quality.
If your looking for softer springs don't get hd springs lol.
And I think flatdog springs are supposed to be a good brand to choose.

Hi is it a 90? i used TF118 medium load front springs front AND rear on my 90 pick up, the ride was OK and it was soft enough to articulate really well. I did have +5 inch shocks though but if you went with + 3 inch shocks you wouldn't need to change the top shock mount
 
Why not just try 2" shock droppers on the back? They might allow the springs to expand properly and give more flexible movement.

Just a thought ..

As it happens i have a pair somewhere, taken off my Disco when I went to +5" shocks. Be happy to post for a small fee .. ;)

Don't won't to lower the mount you get less articulation.
You need upward travel to be able to get drop on the otherside ;)
By lowering the mounts your limiting it!
Better getting longer shocks,
 
He's not after the best articulation, he's after getting better with what he's got .. but yes, longer shocks would be a much better long term bet, hence why I said 'try'.

Many ways to get what he wants .. ;)
 
And I'm running britpart hd springs because I did have a big ol winch on the front and I'm still getting max articulation on the back 16" travel shocks. And fronts is limited anyway as nt running a 1/3/4 link system.

Hmmm missed abit Paul lol :p
But yes droppers would be a cheap alternative if you want abit more movent but if your after a better ride and getting new springs anyway may aswell get some half decent shocks :)

Not really going to benefit me then (cheers anyway Paul). Think i'm going to just change the shocks for now to procomp +2 or +3 and fit some relocation cones. Brake lines have already been sorted.
 
What is the purpose of extended bump stops?? Are they to stop the shock bottoming out and should I need them for a setup like mine??
 
Ok now I am a little confused....was searching for info ,found this thread (sorry for the hijack!)
So I was advised to get some lowered top shock mounts to help with articulation . I have terrifirma shocks so would I be better replacing the shocks than the upper mounts? Mine is supposed to be a 2" lift but he is high and the articulation isn't great....keep getting wheels off the floor and getting stuck on stuff that should be easy to drive over:rolleyes:

buy a locker ,unless a wheel has some weight on it it wont offer much forward motion

You probably have the same set-up as me. +2 inch springs with standard height shocks. Not sure why Terrafirma sell the kits like this as they are bloody useless.

Theres a lot to be said for having a standard landy...but then Dave wouldn't be so much fun;) I am sure I will figure it out thanks:D
