My series 3 109 has a superwinch overdrive fitted, I'm thinking of removing it to overhaul it, but want to use it while I'm doing the job, has anyone done this and if so is it easy enough to do without spending a lot of money for a temporary use.

I think the Superwinch is the same as the Fairey overdrive? I'm also looking to overhaul my Fairey overdrive and have started to collect the parts needed. With the overdrive out, you need at least the mainshaft gear, the mainshaft bearing housing and the special nut on the back of the mainshaft to be able to use the gearbox. Plus I guess the bearing inside the housing and the washers & circlips etc.
These parts are available new, but often turn up on eBay as "overdrive blanking kits" for about £60 - £80.
I've not done the job myself, but it doesn't look too bad. The special nut can apparently be a problem to tighten correctly. There's a special tool available (part 600300) but usually for silly money, although there's a seller on eBay who makes them himself for £20.

I think you are right about the Superwinch/Fairey overdrive, I think one of the two companies bought out the other and a lot of info on the net states that you can use parts with either name on either drive. I will check out Ebay for the banking kit and special tool. I don't do any motorway driving with my wagon, I was thinking of not even putting the overdrive back on to be honest, but it gives you an extra option I suppose.
