The roof on my 300tdi 110 csw is knackered - I purchased a replacement roof some time back, and collected it this week.

The mechanism on my existing roof is a kind of cam action one.
The mechanism on the new roof is a screw one.

The screw one seems a much better idea, as the tension when closed can be altered (in the hopes of sealing properly)

...but the glass is smashed on the new roof, and the mounting through the glass looks to be slightly narrower : (

This is the screw one -

This is the cam one (i think) -

So, what am i asking?

Any ideas as to how to get the glass from my existing roof, to work with the screw? Or any other ideas as to how to replace the glass on the new roof that does not involve selling (my) body parts?

If it were just the diameter, I'd do that, but its the position.

I'm considering making up an adapter plate. I think this would work, as the score can be tightened as much or as little as required, so changing the lift by 3mm or so would, I'm sure, be compensatable.

Its a load more bother than I really want though. But a sheet of glass at £280 ex vat just isn't going to happen either!

Thank you

I think (but should check that too!) that the hinges are the same. I bet theyre half an inch wider or something though!

Will take it apart somtime next week, and have a look.

Ive often thought about blanking mine as sick of the condensation each winter, have now got a non sunroof to fit some time.

Im replacing the roof on my 110 csw - i almost purchased a non-sunroof roof, but then realised that, although our 300tdi disco roof rains on me, i still like it, and often use it.
I find using a sunroof much nicer than winding down the windows - you seem to get ventilation with the sunroof, without being hit in the face by air.

It would all be fine, if someone at landrover had though it a good idea to drill the holes in the same places...

I think theres a good chance the glass will be toughened, if it is if you go anywhere near it with the intention of drilling or cutting it will explode into millions of little bits.

Good point!
I think the are toughened after they have the holes etc put in :( It's worth a google though!

On the roof i have with the smashed glass, there is a bit of remaining glass around the fixings, and that is certainly 'diced' - as in in loads of small squares, rather than shards.

Dont know what this means.

Nah laminated glass will crack but stay in one piece as it's layers stuck together toughened will go into small pieces as a result of the heating process

Come to think of it when I goosed my windscreen putting it in last year it cracked in several directions. Didn't go in to small pieces.

Old screens used to be toughened but caused more injury by 100,s of pieces of glass flying around. I think all other glass is toughened though. Had an experiance in a t2 vw on the motorway. Screen shattered but didnt break. Had to punch a hole in it just to see my way to hard shoulder. New pants moment.
