indeed, must admit I’ve been where the op has before and replaced the entire chassis , when I started to cut the old chassis up the metal was very thin in places and the inside was in a terrible state

Plus it was trying to line everything up so opted for the safer options of a new chassis plus was a joy when putting all the panels back on , fitted a new bulkhead as well

I will go along with that ^^^^new chassis you have been paid out and only £800 in the bucket it’s a winner,
If you plan on keeping.

good luck and waiting for another member project:)

I only had her for just over a month, when the knob jockey pulled out in front of me , the lad that I bought it off had just replaced the rear quarter and the rest of the chassis is solid with no holes anywhere, can’t afford a whole new chassis at the moment, and I think replacing the front quarter will be ok. Thanks for the feedback guys, I’ll keep you posted.

blimey mate talk about bad luck

I must admit when I done a chassis it was lining everything back up I found the hardest, think a 109 chassis are around 2k now

alas know where ur coming from, maybe a decent second hand chassis will come up, they do exist, lol

have seen some second hand chassis coming up , plus know when I done mine it was heaven that the axles etc all lined up and must have saved weeks not messing around with trying to line the old chassis up

scared the life out of me of how thin some of the metal was on the old chassis

My old 88 diesel snapped its chassis under the fuel tank, was one of my first landies and had more plates than the 7th bridge

Indeed look forward to another project thread,

Its a shame you allowed the other persons insurance company to scrap it. As it wasnt your fault you could have demanded it be returned to its former condition. I know I would.

Would assume the ins paid out enough for the op to repair it back to its original condition if not better

Sum is weldable, mine came with a 6x4 patch on the front where a rock must have gone through. Changed it when I got a replacment engine off e-bay.
Look on the bright side, the knock may even have been hard enough to free the steering relay!;)

I didn’t let the other insurance company scrap it, it was my insurance company that took the car away to valuate the damage caused, as the car had only been bought a month before hand for £4K and the damage that was caused, they decided that the cost of repairing the car, out weighed its value, so paid the full £4k I paid, I then requested to buy the car back, which I have for £800, andusing the £3200 fixing her myself.

Your fault then :(

So he wasnt insured then.
Yeah he was insured, my insurance company claimed the money from his insurance company, but I only dealt with my insurance company, at the end of the day, I got my money back and I paid to get it back, to fix up. I’m happy as I’ve a
Ways wanted to restore and fix a old Landy up, now I get that chance

Im sure you know what your doing, I just wouldnt be able to test if the repair chassis was structurally as sound as the new one a garage would have fitted. I would much prefer a garage to have replaced the whole thing and put it back on the road as was. Its not as if your going to be billed although either way your premiums will rise as your now a greater risk. I wouldnt want an insurance wright off either nor buy one.

Like I say, no way a no fault accident would see my series scrapped by anyone. Especially 'my' insurance company. I wouldnt do them a favour either by supplying free labour on the repair so they get off lightly.

It hasn’t been wrote off mate, it’s a Cat S which means it can be fixed, they said that the cost to repair her would out cost the value of the car, so offered for me to find a new Ser 3 for the same value or take the money, I took the money and bought the car back.

They can offer what they like. You have a legal right to have your car repaired at the other drivers expense. You also have the right to a similar car provided while those repairs are done. Its not your fault the other insurance company has muppet customers and you do not deserve to be inconvenienced by them one tad.
This wright off nonsense is boiling my pee. If its your fault fair enough but not if its their cock up. I'm sure when they put your premiums up next year for being a bigger risk (a driver known to put himself in the way of muppets) they wont try and save you any money so why the hell are you accepting their cobblers.
I do hope however you enjoy having a tinker with the old heap. I know I do. :)
