sump not coming off - series 3 2.25 petrol

trying to remove the sump. Removed all the bolts but not coming off. I assume it's had some mastic or similar. So wondering how to safely get it off. Is it completely flat so I can try and run a Stanley knife blade around it?

Any advice/help greatly appreciated.

Whack it with a big rubber hammer.

Or a bit of wood.

+1 on hide / rubber mallet with or without block of wood and aim for the flange so you don't make dents. Stanley knife will work or end in A&E.
If you have a wall paper scraper you can work that into the gap and lever gently.

is it steel or ali? I assume steel if you're talking about dents. Was worried about cracking it, if ali.

Wooden wedge to break the seal

+1 for Stanley knife, once you get a start get a wedge in/screwdriver which helps makes a gap to run the Stanley blade round and keep moving wedge just behind blade

well there's a turn up. No mastic. just very stuck gasket. Off now and glad I did, about 10mm of sludge in the bottom. probably not been off since 1975!
