You're not the first to do this, although when I did it, it was the intercooler inlet hose, a bit out of the way, and I'm sure you wont be the lastWell what a dork I feel. I went under the bonnet again with torch in hand and still could not find anything untoward.
I took the disco to my local garage who popped up the bonnet and immediately noticed that the jubilee clip was loose on the hose where the rubber hose connects to the metal pipe to run to the intercooler. 2 minutes with a screwdriver and I have full power and a quiet (as much as it can be) disco again.
