Substandard crankshaft on disco 4

My crank shaft has gone on my disco 4. I am about o do battle with land rover as they are saying its not covered by the extended warranty due to insufficient proof in service.

Apparently the crank shafts are snapping all over the place. Land rover know about it, the garages know about it and the engineers know about it.

Why don't we as drivers know about it.

I am currently facing the prospect of a £25k bill to replace the engine.

Thoughts welcome.

you're right, it is sadly becoming a well documented problem, although I thought it was a D3 - TDV6 issue rather than a D4 issue... :scratching_chin:

how about this for an approach - tell LR you want an independant Engine expert to investigate for you and that if he finds that it is due to a manfuacturing defect LR pay, if not it's your job to pay... (I'd get that written by a lawyer personally, it'll only cost a couple of hundred to get it professionally and legally written) from my quick research, it sounds like it is a LR issue (see the quote below from disco3.co.uk)

what service history do you have though? Being a D4 i'd have thought you'd have full dealer service history? It's not exactly an old vehcile which you just do yourself really is it?

A specialist looked at the failed engine block and was surprised to see that 3 out of 4 main bearing caps in the failed engine were not correctly matched to the block.

Instead of being tightly fitted to the block, the caps are 1/2 mm to short, leaving room for potential vibration and wear. Eventually, after 65 000 km a main bearing got enough room to rotate, thereby blocking circulation of oil through the crankshaft and after that burn out the neighboring bearings.

i still have the engine block available if anyone wants it including cylindres, pistons etc in good order apart from 3 main bearings.
