Series 3 Stupid handbrake lever

Is the handbrake lever really intended to bruis my knee?

Hi Team,

The ****ing handbrake lever is now bruising my left knee. Who thought that was a good design?

Are there alternative handbrake levers that can be fitted to an S3?

Suggestions welcome.....

I think the s3 one is awful too, the s1 one is much nicer, no idea if it will fit though or if you could find one

its more like an ordinary car one, goes through the same style hole in the seatbox as the s3 you can see a bit of it in this pic
 
I have Series II/III handbrakes in both of my Series Is . Much easier to use than the Series 1 hand brakes , and I don't bang my knees on either of them . I don't see why you couldn't fit an earlier handbrake into your Series III , as it works the other way around .
 
Trouble with the late 2a and 3 handbrake is it was designed to be operated with one seated with a fixed seatbelt,early 2a is better than a series one leaver as it has a slight bend to let you get your fingers under without touching the [muddy] floor.
 
I think there's mounts on the chassis to fit the handbrake on the passenger side (for LHD versions), would prob need a little linkage that's specific to that installation to connect it across. It would be well out of the way then.

I've heard people say this happens to them as well, however I'm still unsure how people are managing to hit their knees on the handbrake of a S3? Having driven mine for years and never had this issue I'm confused how your driving it to cause this to happen?
 
I've adjusted mine now so it's further out of the way - but where it was allowed the lever to flap left-right into the most painful point of my knee. I suspect it's to do with a multitude of factors, how you sit etc.....
