The benefits of keyless entry and the epidemic of RR's being stolen. All RR's are being treated the same regardless of the entry method. The cost of writing off BEV's and hybrids is also a factor.Hi,
I am really struggling to get insured on my 2021 Range Rover Sport in London.
My circumstance has not changed over the last year but my insurance has jumped from £2k to over £9k?
Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any advice ?
Thanks
Unfortunately this us very common, they get stolen all the time.Hi,

It's little to do with BEVs or even hybrids dispite the latter being more likely to catch fire than other vehicles. The main reason is down to a huge increase in fraudulent claims (people are claiming to get back money tied up in vehicles), and claims for thefts of high value vehicles like RRs, Audi Qs. BMW X and Ms, basically high value vehicles with keyless entry systems that are easily stolen. The benefits of keyless entry and the epidemic of RR's being stolen. Petrol and matches?
I think you will find an increase of 7% is pie in the sky. It's little to do with BEVs or even hybrids dispite the latter being more likely to catch fire than other vehicles. If you drive a 10 year old bread and butter car, then the insurance will have increased by about 7% on last year. Drive something nearly new that is a high theft target, and it'll be much more expensive to insure than previous years.
I wonder how a software update helps to stop the vehicle being stolen?plus cant see premiums coming down regardless of the free update that JLR are offering because its only from 2018, seeing keyless entry came in around 2014
wonder if they also ran another scheme of offering a 50% discount for older keyless entry systems , if that could possibly allow the premiums to reduce
know there’s many other factors but seems the main issue is the theft of keyless entry landies, just curious if that would at least be a start in helping reduce premiums
Looks like it will block the keyless entry systems from being hacked , alas though only from 2018I think you will find an increase of 7% is pie in the sky.
If mine goes up by 7% for our car I will fall over in amazement.

Time will tell.Looks like it will block the keyless entry systems from being hacked , alas though only from 2018

I know it's done, but if caught it voids the insurance. If vehicle, at value of 2yr old Range Rover is stolen, you can be sure insurance will be turning over every stone to see if there is a 'get out' card. When I was in Birmingham last week the lads down there said the same thing they insure it else where cause
the insurance companys wont touch them.
My landy is 125 quid a year to insure & the keys are left in it still no takers
I wonder why being a soldier is high risk for your car insurance, hardly going to drive to a war zone.I know it's done, but if caught it voids the insurance. There is also the employment factor. As a soldier I was hammered for insurance , for years, as we are classed as high risk.
They classed us as risk takers, wanting adrenaline rushes Didn't like to laugh and say I get enough of that at work , thanks. Even during the good old Cold War/Op Banner days there was higher premiums.I wonder why being a soldier is high risk for your car insurance, hardly going to drive to a war zone.
Hang on, just going to pop to Afghanistan for a picnic, back on Sunday evening!
Indeed but doTime will tell.
But does it stop FOB cloning?
I have no faith in JLR actually doing something that will stop the thefts and if they can it begs the question why it wasn't done from factory.
Down side to all this is smashing your front door in and stealing your keys.
Could be worse they could smash yer back door in Here have the keys...........
Difficult to see how they can overcome FOB cloning, anything they do will soon be circumvented.Indeed but do
Indeed is supposed to stop all ways to gain entry or cloning of the key
also as a side note I also spoke to my old insurance company and they said even adding a ghost system / tracker hardly reduces premiums
at the end of the day don’t think premiums will come down unless older keyless entry systems are included
