If you watch through the vid you'll see landys parked further up stream, they were in a much better position to pull from
even it they used a snatch block & pulled from the other motor. At least no one was injured. :) :)
Exactly, could have easily done an offset pull back the way it went it with a snatch block or two.

Buying a winch online is incredibly easy, knowing how to properly use it and not to risk chopping your mates head off when he stands in the middle of two live ropes is slightly more involved.

I was shocked to see folks standing so close during a pull an emergency strategic vehicular recovery operation between 2 or more connected vehicles.

What's more, I'll bet the vehicle used for recovery was not insured to do so, nor was the operator registered with the national recovery of de-camped vehicles association.
There weren't even any hi Viz jackets!! And they are compulsory for such things!! And where were the flashing lights and sirens, or the tape to fence off and active scene?? 🙄😬🤭🫣🤔🤣

Why the hell are they trying to pull it sideways, it would have came out the way it went in. Bloody dum dums all standing around
the winch wire if that let go well they wouldnt be at work on Monday. <snip>

Couldn't agree more that was the most ridiculous thing/recovery attempt i've seen and also a classic not understanding the capabilities of the vehicle by the driver.
An abject lesson in how not to (winch) recover.
