Haven't wanted to go out in the rain to mess with the Disco, so nothing done there.....but I have just botched a lead up so I can charge my GPS from he laptop. Means it will make it through the weekend without dying.

I was going to put in a proper 12v to 5v regulator and fit it to the car, but running out of time, so just made a straight lead to go to USB socket on laptop.
(I found my soldering iron but can't find my solder :()


If it's not raining when I get home tomorrow, I may still take off the front valence.....

FFS why not just buy a Ipod/mp3.usb in car charger. Basically a cig lighter plug with a usb port in it.

1 cigarette lighter - many devices !!!!

I need to power mobile phone and GPS. Plus I'll have the inverter plugged in there.
When not laning, won't have the inverter but will have DAB radio instead,

Oh yeah, and my CB if the batteries go flat in the handheld!!.


It's more faff to do, but end result should be my blue tooth gps stashed above sun visor and still plugged in, but still removable.
Leaving the cigarette lighter for other stuff.

Eventually they will all be wired in so that I'm not swamped in cables!!

And anyway, the 12v to 5v regulator only cost 80p and will do 2 amps - the cigarette phone charger things are about £10 and only do 500mA


If I wanted the easy reliable off the shelf solution, I'd be driving an Isuzu Trooper :D

Alas, currently the inverter is borrowed. If it makes sense, I will buy one soon.

Cigarette lighter sockets are the work of the devil. They are incredibly bad as power connectors, and I don't smoke.
I hate them with a passion, and I certainly don't want anymore of them in there :D

I looked at those - 1 cig and 4 usb

Nearly bought one, but £10!!!!!!

I've decided that now I have a DIY car I would resurrect my DIY electronics hobby.

Just wait until I get started on fitting the CB and Ham stuff :D:D:D:D
