1:250 000 is road atlas size. Basic a to b navigation only

1:50 000 is good, lots of detail, paths etc marked - I guess the most common for laning. They cover a big area and have enough detail.

1:25 000 lots of detail, excellent quality of map. Really god for walking due to the extra detail, but probably OTT for diving, especially as you'll keep driving off the edge of the map ;)

Was that what you were after????

I can bring examples of both to show you if you like.

was looking at memory map site and yes ur info was helpfull and yes bring em with ya so i can have a gander and learn summat :), now... how is memory map used with gps?

If you're looking at memory map, the 1:50 000 are much cheaper. Actually, same price but cover much bigger area ie one map will cover wales and midlands.

1:50 000 is plenty if you're in a car.

Memory Map works with GPS if you can connect a GPS to your laptop.

Otherwise you can use the portable version that runs on Windows Mobile and stuff like that - obviously you still need a gps attached.

I have a separate blue tooth gps that works with either my phone or laptop.
I beleive some Sat Nav things will give out GPS info via bluetooth so you can use those with the laptop/phone....I think that is what 90boy was doing.

I don't know that sat nav so don't know if it will push out gps info

Has the mobile phone got gps??

I always say the same thing about iPhones - they are very good at what they do. If they do what you want, they're hard to beat, but if you want anything else.........

Somewhere on their website it tells you which phone OSs it runs on, but I coudn't find it just now.

It def works on Windows Mobile, so any of the PDA type phone will work - most even have built in GPS now.

I use a netbook in the truck with a wired gps which cost around £25 off ebay new.
I've got all of the uk in 1:50k and 1:25k mapping.
1:50k is generally ok for laning but when you need to read detail i.e field boundaries then its great to be able to use/alternate between the 2.
