can only be fuel or air, maybe it ran too lean due to the lift pump at high revs or maybe your pipes are de laminating and blocking air.

boost gauge would be a useful toy, sorry i mean useful diagnostic tool you require

only difference in my case i had the head of it recently,though did not get any muck in the fuel lines AFAIK
