Strange noise

My defender 90 300tdi has a strange noise whilst driving sounds like a squeal and a chattering / cackling coming from the gear box anyone any ideas?

You sure that it's the gearbox.?! Front UJ's have the same symptoms and are a common fault! £12 to replace!

How fast were you going? I get that chattering noise if I approach 70 MPH but I think it's just rapid spasms of my sphincter muscle reverberating through the seat box.

The squealing normally indicates movement in the UJ's. Plenty examples on youtube have look!

Not the ujs they have been replaced and the noise goes when the clutch is depressed I'm thinking spigot bearing or input bearing it gets louder when accelerating
