strange noise when starting

Hi guys I have 51 plate td5 and when I start her there's a strange sound coming from the drivers side engine bay sounds like behind the dash area of the engine bay and Iit sounds like a flap closing or opening quite loud too any experiences or any ideas guys?? Cheers lee

Also if I put my foot on the brake pedal before i start the engine you can feel it through the pedal when it makes that noise

It might be the vacuum pump

That's normal - it's something to do with the ABS /TC system on start up

cool - always wondered about that noise myself, but didn't pay much attention because the D2 runs fine

From the replies, I would guess that is the case.

Another scary noise for you:
First time I dropped a wheel off a curb when accelerating and heard the whizzy chattering noise I thought wtf have I done - it's only the traction control system sorting stuff out (the ABS shuttle vale or some such) - it makes the same noise when the TC kicks in off road

Yes, I had that one. Only happened once but disconcerting when it happens.
