Hi guys,
I got some noice that sound like itˋs coming from back of engine/gearbox with the clutch pressed down AND put a gear in.
There is no noice when I press the clutch down.....until I put a gear in, stil with clutch down. Then I get a noice that sounds like a bearing or maybe some gear that not engage properly. As soon as I release the clutch slightly so I feel itˋs engaging , it gets quiet and while driving itˋs quiet (not that Iˋm driving it now).
First I suspected the bearing in the clutch but then I should have the noice as soon as I press the clutch regardles if a gear is in or not. As this is when the car is staying stil, the engine should be the only "moving" part. The gearbox and transferbox is not turning at this point....
My next thougt is the flywheel.....anyone who know if there is a dual mass flywheel on the 4.0:s?
From what Iˋve read, isˋs a dual mass on the diesels....but what about the 4.0 petrol?
Anyone who knows......or have some other ideas...

I don't think the v8 has a dual mass flywheel. Dual mass flywheels are usually fitted to reduce chatter and noise (vibration) coming down the drivetrain from diesel engines. The v8 is lovely and smooth so doubt it is required.

Same noise in all gears? Particularly 5th / reverse?

sounds like the spigot bush ,though it could be a front g/box bearing outer race spinning in the case, theres no dual mass on a petrol

Thank you..
jamesmartin, I think you are right...must be the spigot bush. Since the gearbox is not turning it can't be a bearing in the gearbox, but the flywheel is spinning and incoming shaft in the gearbox is not..that is, when I have the noice.
With the clutch engeged they both spinn with the same speed = no noice

If the clutch is dipped the first motion shaft can still turn if there is resistance between it and the spigot bearing. Engaging gear would be crunchy
