Not much luck, think I'll need to take a £3000 loss on this one:doh:
I met with the local DVLA office a few weeks ago for them to check the numbers. The upshot is the car is not stolen (I have a police report to prove it) but there is an issue with the identity and the DVLA want to re-register it.
I have been given a new VIN for it, the LA says I need to get it stamped and taken to the local VOSA office for inspection. Now this is the problem, I have contacted VOSA who say for various reasons (lack of proof that I built the car, no photos, no receipts for major components etc) the vehicle will need a N1 "Class R" ESVA test. So in addition to the £600 Basic IVA test the vehicle will need to be taken to an independant test laboratory where not only do they check the vehicle is built to a safe standard but all the components are up to EC standards. VOSA say this will easily cost more than the car is worth.
So at the moment it's in my garage collecting dust while I look for another car. I'll probably mix and match the best bits of both vehicles; doors, wings and so on to get a good vehicle. I'll then be left over with an enormous supply of spares
