Strange knocking noise when my disco 2 rocks?

We have a 2002/3 Discovery 2. When the car rocks left to right, for example going over a kerb or very pot holed road, it makes a strange knocking noise from the rear. Normally happens at slow speed and there is no noise when travel at speed if we have a speed bump. IE just a vertical movement. Does happen when cornering or turning. Only if the car rocks left to right. Our local 4x4 place have had it up on the lift and can't see anything loose. They say some of the rear bushes are worn but not worth replacing yet?

Any ideas that the issue might be?

Watts linkage?

Get underneath it and above the rear axle you'll see an arrangement of 2 arms linking the middle of the axle to each side of the chassis. It replaced the rear A frame arrangement in disco 1. Get someone to rock the car while you hold each bush in turn and the centre assembly. You'll hear or feel the knock if it's worn.

If it is worn, only use genuine bushes and centre roller bearing (it'll come clear if you google) or replace with quality polybush. I used superpro bushes from Australia they were fine.

This is the problem. Seems to be the bushes in the middle assembly. Looks like I can remove the linkage myself? Do I need to take weight off the back of the car? Then I need to find someone that has a press so I can put in the new bushes?

What about these as new bushes?

However, now I know I'm not super worry about this problem. I don't see that it's causing long term damage to any other part of the discovery?

Search for the superpro kit, that way everything's replaced including the bushes in link arms. I've read bad things about flo-flex. If you go poly or seperate metalastic bushes you'll need a press to get old ones out and at least a vice to get poly bushes in. Remember centre 'bush' in pivot assembly isn't actually a bush it's a roller bearing lol

Or part number as James says if you want to quickly replace whole centre pivot for ease.

Yep jack rear right up on chassis so axle drops enough to get the long centre bolt clear of the fuel tank. Probably longest bolt on the car! Good write up here

Definitely not mega urgent
