Strange alarm issue on turning over - advice needed please

I have a 2014 Defender, and have recently started having a strange alarm problem. If I don't run it for a few days, when I try and start it, the alarm sounds for a second or so when it turns over. Is this battery related? If I then go for a quick run, park up, and restart say 20mins later it's fine, no alarm. But leave it for a couple of days again, and the alarm goes on starting it.

It's on it's first battery still so is coming up for 4 years, and recently it's been used less, so is going for a few days at a time between runs. Any advice would be great please.

As u have a manufacturers security system the alarm will be voltage sensing, therefore if the battery's voltage drops below the preset threshold as in starting the engine with an iffy battery the alarm will sound, so soon at the engine starts the alternator takes over and starts charging your battery.

Of course the cause may be something else, but in the process of elimination, test with a fully charged battery first in a two or three days.
My discoverys first battery failed in four years, so much for Genuine LR parts as the Halfords replacement lasted nine years.

First thing to do would be to test the battery we had this on a TDCI where the low battery would send the alarm of its rockers. Normally on engine start.

If you have a multimeter put it across the terminals and measure voltage first thing in the morning before starting. Then again after a 10-20 minutes drive. Then again before you start first thing in the morning.

You should see 12V+, 14V+ and 12V+.
 
Cool thanks folks. I'll test the battery first then and see how it looks. If it does need replacing, are there any 'quirks' I should be ready for when changing it (immobiliser/alarm related)?

Yes your battery is on its way out. My original lasted just under 5 years and then gave exactly the same problem wot you have. New battery and problem sorted. Battery went into decline when I stopped using the landy on a regular basis, no doubt due to the drain for the alarm and other security systems I have added. I now regularly top up the battery charge to keep it in trim.

Yes. Procedure for disconnecting battery, reconnecting and resynchronising the key fobs is in the vehicle handbook. If you don't have it use the search box for thread Puma Went Dead and read it there. (sorry don't know how to set a link to the thread).
 
Before removing the battery read you owners handbook there is most likely a short procedure to follow, otherwise the 'battery backed up sounder' will sound as soon as the vehicles battery is disconnected, that's if the nicad battery inside hasn't failed by now.
