The immobiliser is turned off for 30 seconds when you blip your landy to dissarm it.

When using my landy for breakdowns I use a spare key and dummy fob in the ignition and keep the full set of keys and real fob in my pocket. That way if it gets nicked, it won't restart after it's been turned off. I simply blip it with the real fob and then start it straight up with the spare key and dummy fob.;)
Good idea. So the dummy fob does not have to be registered to the ECU or anything? Why is there a sensor coil around the ignition barrel? I thought it was so the engine would not run without the correct fob being in close proximity? Not doubting you - just asking.

Correct. The dummy fob is from a scrapper and is not registered to the ECU.

The sensor coil is so that if you went to start the vehicle with the alarm already dissarmed you can just stick your key in and go. The led on the dash comes on to tell me I need to hit my fob button again.

If you want to test it yerself, just seperate your key from your fob and have a play.;):p

All is now clear. I forgot about the alarm bit as sometimes I dont set it and just let the immobiliser come on if the dog is in the car. In that case I dont normally use the plipper to disarm the immobiliser. I am enlightened and on the hunt for a spare plipper. Anybody got one they dont want?

The only problem here is that you are relying on them stalling the truck (hope its not an auto!), the police even attending, and them not been able to get it into a garage/lock up asap!

My mother has a Nissan Micra Hardtop Softtop thing and it is all done on proxy by the key fob. There is a twist switch in place of the key and you only have to have the key in the car to start it. (Designed for women with handbags full of crap!)

Problem is that once started it will drive till stalled or turned off or (See Story later) it runs out of petrol!

I have tested it and it will go for miles!

My mother is tone deaf so can't hear the engine and once parked up at home (on a road next to a busy shop!) after work 5ish....

My brother came home at 1am and turned the car off for her! Just as it was running out of petrol! She had not realised it was still running and used a full tank of petrol!

It is an absolutly stupid idea for a manufacture to put it in full swing!

If it were me I would have a cut off switch linked to the handbrake or a GSM unit that can be called to kill the engine!

NO. I am hoping that in the event of somebody driving off in my landy I will have a BETTER chance of it being found if they turn it off than I would if I had left the real fob in the vehicle. There is only so much you can do but when attending breakdowns and laying under a customers car it is very hard to see what's going on with the breakdown truck or landy. I use the main key to lock it while I'm working but in the event that somebody does put a window through or similar I can show the insurance company that I have done all I can to safeguard the vehicle.
