This has happened before, a couple of years ago one police force had the doors stolen off one of their own Defenders whilst it was parked on police property!
Red faces all round I should think ;)

Yep, that was Market Bosworth plod in Leicestershire. They had a brand new Defender from the local dealership. About 2 weeks after delivery it ended up pillaged for all the bodywork!

I don't understand why the facebook peeps haven't contacted the police about a stolen vehicle they claim to have found. If its registered stolen with the police then they will have the theft on record. They will also know the detail of the theft and who the registered keeper is. If they were to tell the police then they will recover it to safety.

Police don’t tend to recover stolen vehicles anymore as they haven’t got the room to store them. The exception is if said vehicle has been used in another crime when it might be recovered for forensics.

Ours do unless the owner states they don’t want it recovered due to cost and wanting to recover it themselves. When they report the theft, they’re told about the recovery fees.

Hopefully the person with knowledge of where it is has told the police. Aside from recovering it, there is the chance to catch those responsible or someone assisting in it’s being handled as stolen goods.

Ours do. It stops it disappearing again and/or further damage.
