Scary and worrying. Am in the process of expedition preparing a 110 CSW and appreciate that many people probably have their own secret security measures in place but just wondered if for example:
You have immobiliser, wheel lock and steering lock - is this enough to prevent vehicle being stolen completely - or can they still take and how (by lift and loading into a lorry/trailer or something)? What additional sensible measures could be taken in addition to the above 3 (apart from hiding the vehicle away while stationary for long periods )?

Pedal locks are a good option. Better than most steering locks etc: Try putting a red immobiliser key in a hidden area where people wont see it. Hopefully you wont come across to many monkeys with Vehicle recovery abroad...

Hi there people,

Glad to see that this event has stired up a lot of interest and support.

I am almost glad to report that Les at K.T.C has had the 110 recovered or should I say given back to him less a few extras. They did however at least give him some help in getting it home from Liverpool!!!!!!!!!!! an engine and bodywork.

Everything else is either bent, broken or missing.

So, people. If you hear of a roof tent, jerrycan holders, rock sliders, spot lights, cubby box, CB, radio, waffle boards, full range of camping equipment, brand new set of komatso AT tyres and 5 spoke wheels, winch, shackle eyes, recovery gear and ground anchor ................... the list could go on but fingers tired!

Just imagine this was your vehical and you had to replace these items along with many others.

Les is one of the kindest people I have had the fortune to meet and is always willing to pass on his knowledge and expertise with regards to all types of Landrovers now matter who the person is, and certainly did not deserve this kind of attention. His face if often found in Landrover World up to his eyes in it on someones vehical.

With regards to stopping the theft of these vehicals, I have two landrovers both fully prepared. No matter how hard I look at them as an engineer there is always a way of removing a vehical. The only thing you can do is to make the time scale long enough for them to be noticed in the act, or to make them give up.

Many kind thanks for all your remarks,

Steve (ALCO262)
