heres a thought ,, does anybody in Lancashire that is independent know where they have t4 and also does anyone know if t4 or other will actually show the problem as a positive fault i.e. failure to start on first key on cold mornings ,????????? but if I put key in ignition turn to 2nd click and wait approx. 2/3/ minutes it fires up ?????????????? and then its fine for rest of day ??????????? still doin my head in >>> anyone want to buy it ,, ???????
Practicing for a diesel Mozz, glow plug time:)

It might be trying to start on LPG instead of petrol if thats the case try closing the spark plug gaps down to about 025 thou as LPG needs a hotter spark rather than a larger one to start

Just a passing thought - try opening the fuel filler before starting, maybe a blocked breather creating a vacuum in the tank pulling fuel back overnight, don't know if there are NRV's in the fuel system.

I'm never sure if the hiss when you open the filler is pressure or vacuum.

I know you've checked the fuel pressure, but have you checked it before/at start up . . .?

Good luck

Alastair

hi allister , yes done that = no difference
today went out early =0730 put key in ignition turned to 2 pre crank sat there 3 minutes cranked = then started 2nd crank . ??????????????

I know we have talked about this at length before Mozz. But those symptoms are classic of a failed ECU temp sensor. I know you have changed it. But to my mind the sensor is either not sending the correct info or the ECU is not acting on it and setting start fuel. :);)

Lad was not on it Mozz he just owns the place. If any of the staff walked past they stopped filming i believe. See here, scroll down to the photo he is the big lad on the right. http://www.armyantsremovals.com/ :);)

A careful check on the sensor connector might be a good place to start, I've known the wires to corrode away with the actual metal connector just holding on to the insulation.
The wires can be checked with a DVM from sensor to ECU using RAVe for reference.

If it was mine, it would be out with the Ezystart. Get wife type to crank it whilst I give it the medicine.

Not neccessarily to start it running but if it tries to fire, you know the sparks department is on parade.

I'm very wary of using too much of the stuff on petrol engines in case they pop back and then you might have a nice little fire going in the induction side so just a sniff or two.

im so glad its not yours !!!!!!!!! but thanks anyway ??????????? :(:(:(

Always happy to help - my comment about a fire in the induction side was tongue in cheek, I've only seen it happen once, wasn't me holding the can, was a prat spraying the stuff about like an adolescent using Lynx before a first date.

Seriously though, it would prove that you had two out of the three things required namely compression and ignition.

If you have those, it narrows it down to fuelling and as wise counsel on here have suggested, new parts can be defective.

As I have posted elsewhere on this forum, I have been very fortunate to have found via a friend of a friend, a P38 identical to mine in year and spec that the previous owner ran a bigend on. Engine US but everything else was working fine when this mishap occurred, so have bunged him a few hundred quid for it and am in the process of harvesting all these sensors and senders, the throttle body with all attachments as well as loads of mechanical stuff, interior gubbins, electronics, braking equipment, the list is pretty exhaustive but I know it will save me so much money long term as I have no intention of selling my Rangie for a long time yet. All the above is known to have been in working condition when removed so hopefully it will help with diagnostics in the future.

Do you know of somebody in your part of the world with a very similar model to yours that you could borrow the coolant sensor from, for instance, someone on here perhaps?

There are few things more aggravating than faults like these and I hope you resolve the problem soon and let us all know what it was that caused the problem:)

:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

hi everyone , well I did say I would update today so here goes .

WE HAVE LIFT OFF !!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D after over 10mths and spending around £1000.00 in parts and labour and diagnostics the problem has been found and sorted ...

on visiting an friend ( mechanic ) on Friday ,who I lost contact with , due to him moving premises etc 12 mths ago , I explainecd the whole scenario from start till then (Friday) he then lifted bonnet had a good look round at all the new parts !!!!!! then opened fuse compartment ... checked all fuses then the relays and started swapping the relays about like for like i.e. all 3 pins then all 4 pins and so on , on the last 2 he pulled them to swap over and noticed one 30 amp had burn mark and melt on it so exchanged that and said see what appens in morning when cold !!!!!:eek::eek: so next morning went out with wifey and :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: all ignition and lpg unit lit up and fired first time !!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D wow , just don't belive this as the fuse board had been checked and checked 4 times before over last 12mths and as recent as November !!!!!!!:confused::confused::confused::confused: . rang him today to tell him about success and praised him most highly ,,,,and he said that sometimes the inside of relay could fail or have intermittent fault but doesn't show any external melt or burn marks till it is totally overloaded !!!, so all is good at present and its going back to him for full proper check of fuse box internal and externally ,,, so we are delighted to report that all is well with our beastie v8 .

may I take this opportunity to praise and thank EVERYONE who has helped and put input into trying to resolve this unbelievable problem ,,,, if I miss your names out I apologize ..
wammers , who has spent many hours on the phone with me and has been the greatest assistance and would you believe had already suggested fault at fuse box !!!!!!, I thank you so much mate for your persistence and help
