Fellas i really need your help please i am at my wits end with this now.

the brake lights arnt doing what they should be.

well yesterday all i did was remove the back clusters change the bulbs and fit them again. i have also had the streing wheel suround off to as it was loose and the automatic gearbox lever cover off to replace the trim as it was cracked.
well i put everything back as it should ( She thinks) now the following happens.
1. with the car not running and lights selected to off i have no lights. yay.
2. with the car not running and selected to side lights i have the rear lights on. yay.
3. with the engine running and the lights selected to side lights i have the brake lights on constantly. arhhh.

all the front lights work as they should. this is driving me nuts i have cleaned and checked all the contacts in the back of the clusters and checked my connections on the light switch which i disconnected. I dunno what else to do.

Please please help i need my motor road worthy and its not drivable like this. Thankyou in advance.

sounds like a faulty brake light switch
have a look at the brake pedal to see if its making contact with the switch:)

this happened on a car i bought from a doris in glasgow, her brother was a supposed mechanic on this car,the feckin numpty had fitted twin element bulbs in single bulb holders, caused all sorts of problems till i sorted them out.;);)

Yep i am sure they will only go in one way. and i am sure they are the right bulbs.

sorry if i didnt mention that in my last post. lol

i have had a look through the forum and some of the other posts and i beleive that i may have cought/ crimped a cable from the ignition switch when refiting the steering guard. going to do some more investigation tomorrow when it becomes light.

thanks for you advice fellas.
(i am an avionics engineering tech just not used to working on these beasts, give me a helicopter anyday lol)

On the BRIGHT side if a P38 breaks down it just STOPS if a helicopter breaks down it falls outta the fookin sky .....Tain exactly Aero-dynamic is it!!!

well fellas i thought i would give you an update as to what i found today.

good news is i fixed it. i found 3 faults.

first fault was the imobaliser wiring was shocking and it was shorting.
second one turned out to be the ignition switch. felt as if it was loose inside the switch itself if you held it firmly in place it worked.
last fault was the brake switch had failed.

lucky for me i actually had a spare range rover on the drive with i robbed all the bits from that i needed. rewiring took me best part of the day to remove all the bodged bits and do the job correctly.

Now my baby purrs and the hubby is happy now just going to wash and wax her tomorrow now for our weekend away. going to have to hide the keys from him though other wise ill never get to drive her.

thank you again for you advice. much apperciated.
