What size butyl tape did you use? I'm looking to fit a heated screen shortly but had an issue with which tape to use last time I changed glass.

It was 2.5mm x 12mm. I got 19 metres for about £14. From a company called Reddiseals via ebay. First time I’ve used butyl tape so I’ve got nothing to compare it to but it certainly seemed to grip the glass a treat. I cut a bit off to test and even after mauling it about and experimenting it stayed flexible and sticky. I put a strip in the frame then the glass then another strip before fixing in the shiny trim.

Shiny!!!

Just showing off now 😡😡😡

😂🤣😂

No Land Rover progress but I have just noticed something. I’m currently on the ferry about to depart to Rotterdam for a little half term family jollity. There’s a complimentary mini bar so I’m feeling fine. Just watched Ice Cold in Alex and in one of the final scenes Anthony Quinn is being driven away by the British military police having been discovered to be a German soldier and what is in the background but a series one Land Rover! That can’t be right can it?

Right then. Where were we? Last update was February so you'd assume it must be back on the road. As if. On the positive side my son did brilliant with his GCSE's but that now means that A level studying begins this Thursday. I've hardly had any Landy time over the Summer but here's what has gone on. Petrol tank finished.

All smeared with waxoyl round the filler neck which has soaked into that sponge so hopefully sealing and rest proofing a bit. Because I enlarged and reshaped the holes the sponge doesn't quite seal fully but i'm trying to adopt a bit more of a 'She'll be reet', attitude or i'm just never going to get finished.

That’s so good, I think my tank retaining bolts had some thick rubber washers on to damp out the shocks.
Thinks your son might be starting his degree when this gets finished! 😊
I've gone for solid mount at the front then those home made rubber bush things at the back. Fingers crossed.

I'm getting properly addicted to neoprene sponge tape. Used some to seal this bit. Hopefully going to keep the water out (or maybe in?) and stop some rattles.

Word of warning. There may be different types of neoprene tape - I thought I was buying something like that which wetsuits are made from. Typically I had both kids in the Lightweight the first time I was out in the rain after the rebuild. Much hilarity as the foam between the top and bottom parts of the bulkhead started blowing bubbles. Hope you got a different type!

Thanks for the warning. I'll go and get a bit and put it in some water to see what happens. Knowing my luck I will have the bubbly type.

Just tested a bit of my neoprene tape. Seems good. Put it under water and squished it about a bit. No bubbles, repels water and seems come out dry.

Yes, mine did too! Maybe it was bubbles forming between the tape and metal, I hope not to find out as I like to think the canvas isn't going back on.
