Moved on from drinking straws... Had heated discussions last night with Wife and Daughter, apparently it's the Cows which are causing the global warming! We should get rid of Cows and all become Vegans! Imagine a world with however many billions of flatulent Humans?
For every breath a human takes, CO2 is exhaled, humans also emit methane from the other end, more so on a vegan diet. It may well be that some people eat too much meat, but that's a health issue not a climate change issue.
The problem is too many people, if governments do not try to restrict population growth, sooner or later nature will take care of things by famine, disease or war.

I don't eat meat... I eat meat pies, no meat in them!! In a few thousand years, humans will be all gone, then in a million or 2 ors 3 the earth will heal and carry on like it didn't happen, don't ever worry about the earth it will take care of itself, its just a matter of time

My sister says that having a real fire us a pollution issue, I agree somewhat, but so is her driving around town doing spot checks on buildings!!!! My fire us only on November to march and only in the evening..... She's out 5 days a week all day....pfff:rolleyes:
I'm rolling my fúcking eye's now!!!!

Less polluting than an oil fired boiler IMO and burning wood is a natural process, look at all the forest fires around the world. Ours runs all day every day in winter, heats the whole house via the back boiler and I do all the cooking on it's hob or in the oven. Can't afford oil running all the time.

We do seem to avoid the main issue.... and focus on plastic straws and electric cars. Much like high street shops in the UK, they have had their time... adapt or die! Hollywood seems to be constantly telling us we are over populated, watching a War of the Worlds remake on BBC... Hmm, wonder what HG Wells was really trying to tell us? I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing some long forgotten diseases raising their heads again. Once we split the Atom it has been a slippery slope. Start buying African real estate as we head towards the Earths next brain fart!

We are going to struggle trying to sustain new "environmental strategies" and pushing everyone towards a reduced meat diet in the West will only create famine and power struggles. It has long been hinted, he who controls the water controls the planet.... feck the scrabble for control of fossil fuels, this will become secondary to the basic needs. I haven't seen any protesters camped outside the Indian, Chinese, Russian or Philippines Embassy's? The main culprits for pollution still go unchecked as we stuff our faces in the West with gilt free consumables and bang on about Global catastrophe, try telling the poor of India they need to recycle their drinking straws in the green bin and use less air travel! It's a problem which will never have a global solution, other than the most obvious, brought about by either War or a Global epidemic? We are in effect the Earth's Cancer.

Aye, looked at from space, human activity on the planet looks like metastasising cancer.
Nature will eventually reduce the population if governments don't. All species suffer population crashes when the numbers become too great.

I was a student in the 80s on a BSc Business Mangt course and the core theme was Globalisation and Managing change... how ironic that Globalisation will probably been the main contributor to our demise and Managing change was left to the HR department rather than Governments! Think it is "**** happens" now, too little, too late? Saving up for a ticket off this rock!

I was born in a war, there has not been a single year in my life where there has not been a war somewhere but I'm lucky that all the fighting has been far enough away not to affect me, I just hope it remains that way for my few remaining years.

Its back!!!
I have a back boiler (Gas) I was told to take it out and change it for a combi boiler...... ha!! not a chance, it may be less efficient, but its better and will last a lot longer

Combi gas boilers are complex and in my experience not too reliable, oil combi's are even worse. I gave up trying to get the combi gas boiler in my Gite fixed when it cost me more than a new boiler and still didn't work.
Wood is very reliable:D

I agree, not all new fangled energy efficient green stuff works in the real world, changing things every 5 years isn't my idea of saving the planet!! or my wallet, back in the day they built things to last, my gas back boiler is around 40 years old and still works like new, I bought new parts for it 2 years ago, have it given a full service cost was £300 with the parts, not bad at all over £40 years

My boiler is like Trigger's broom!

The air quality in the UK certainly where i live, has NEVER been as good as it is now, in my lifetime. All a load of bollocks about nothing.
