Hi all, I posted on here a couple of months ago with a problem with my stereo in my 2004 vogue. There was no sound from the stereo and the sat nav wasn't working. Checked the back - and yes, the usual water ingress. I forked out for a brand new sat nav and a brand new DSP from landrover (a small fortune) - installed them both, the sat nav works fine but the stereo still isn't working. The DSP option is lit up on the head unit, everything seems fine, just no sound! if you turn the volume up full blast then you can just hear a faint sound of the radio station selected with your ear pressed against the speaker!
This isn't my daily car so I haven't bothered getting it sorted straight away but i'm thinking of selling it / px for a defender (as I do a lot of shooting etc) but I want to get it all 100% for the next person as apart from this the car is immaculate. Any ideas would be greatly recieved! - or if you want to offer me a 110 defender! - the only change i've made to the RR from new is last year I put on some 20" genuine RR wheels fitted with some 50 / 50 all terrain tyres!
 
Even if a couple of pins where gone I would have thought just a speaker or so would not be working.

But nothing's working, including the sub woofer by the sound of it.

To me it sounds like a problem with the connection from the front stereo to the amp / the fibre connection / DSP connection
 
All the connections are clean, i've double checked them all by cleaning the insides with a needle file so the metals shiny. The weird thing is that I can hear the music etc coming through, but only very slightly when the stereo is on full blast. This led me to think that it might be a muting problem, but the cd player, cassette, radio and sat nav are all the same - I can hear them all but only slight. The next thing is to take it to the dealers, but i've already paid a visit and they say it could be anything! - meaning hours of detective work and lots and lots of £££'s. Does anyone know if the new DSP needs programming? or is it just a plug and play item?
 
The main problem with me is anything mechanical, that you can see or hear a problem with then thats fine. But with electrical - where you cant see a problem then i'm lost! Is there anything in the radio module that could cause it? ie does the radio module control the sounds / volume from the cd, cassette, tv and sat nav?? if so, then I might as well just buy a new radio module as it maybe cheaper than a dealer visit!
 
I know Hippo, I have a friend with the diagnostics on his laptop - I paid £50 so he could download the program for the DSP but that came to nothing as the programe couldnt connect with the DSP for some reason. - suggesting it wasn't there! but the new DSP is active on the head unit and operating normally. When the old damaged DSP was in, the DSP logo was faded out on the head unit screen and inactive.

Did your mate try his laptop before you changed the faulty amp or after your new amp was fitted ?
 
so what controls the volume? is that in the DSP? or the head unit? or the radio module? as i've said, it works and everything would be fine if I could just turn the thing up!
 
When the comp was having no luck on the new DSP, we plugged the old one back in and it wasn't connecting with that either. I put it down to the programme........but as know nothing about these things it could be anything!

If it can't connect then there could be something up with the ECU for the audio - not sure where the data bus is for the stereo, probably in the head unit

This what makes me think something in the sat nav head unit is damaged hence no diagnostics connecting to it either :S
 
This kind of narrows the problem down to the head unit then? so is it a case of replacing the ecu for the audio? if there is such a thing that can be replaced?! or swap the head unit? in other words........if you were me what would you do?

I'm not too clued up on the vogue as I have a HSE and it doesn't use a complicated DSP system.

I'm pretty sure the problem is at the sat nav unit as you have changed the amp so there's nothing else at that end of the car that could be causing these problems.

So I would be pointing towards the head unit.

If there's a way for you to be able to somehow borrow a head unit to try ??

If not you can pick up second hand ones on eBay for around £300

Where are you located mate ?
