Just done about 1300 miles in the disco in the last couple of weeks, n have decided i do not like the steering wheel. I dont like the shape (not round n feels all wrong in me hands), material used (its too slippery for my dry hands) n its bloody huge.
What wheels from other cars will fit..?
(Standard no airbags 200tdi)..

if you dont have an airbag or not fussed about having one then there are plenty of 'sporty' 3-spoke type ones and boss'e to fit the collumn although I have three and not one of them fit proerly (alll bought second hand and was told they fit a discovery but if willing to pay new then plenty for sale in off road/ land rover magazines and e bay etc. for around or under £100 with Boss

I wont be spending £100 on a new one. I was hoping that some wheels from other cars i could find in the srappy would fit.
Sounds like i need to avoid ebay if some people say they will fit n they dont..
Cheers chap :)

Rover metro wheels are meant to fit.

Don't quote me on this but I think Metro, Meastro and Montego steering wheels are all the same, you might find it hard to get Montego one now as they all disintegrated by the year 2000:D

Post up on what you find that fits as I would like a change too but you can double the prices over here for the same item

Will do.. :)

What about a leather bound motolita wheel on an appropriate boss?
You can get them in all sorts of sizes. Dished or flat. Plain, drilled, slotted or tear drop spokes. Black or Polished. Leather rim or wood.

The leather bound are very chunky but the wood rimmed variety are very slim and probably no good and not particularly safe for an off roader.

They are about £130 new but used examples come up on ebay all the time from upwards of 20 notes.

Quite a few alternative examples to see here:

Very nice but a bit too posh for my old pop pop..

The other obvious aftermarket wheel is Mountney then...
Although, the spokes are much thinner than the motolita so they tend to flex quite a lot. You can get them new from about £35 quid plus the boss last time I looked!

When I was a student and I couldn't afford to run my MGB V8 I bought a Mk2 Metro from a pal with 30k on the clock.
It had been titivated with colour coded bumpers, Vanden Plas wheels and the steering wheel from a Metro Vanden Plas.
Something like that would bolt on with no modifications....

*edit*
Actually I've found a couple of pictures of it! Very 80's - Champagne gold with "world of brown" interior but the steering wheel was very nice. Unfortunately some spiteful bastard decided to dance on the roof and kick all the glass in for me. But I suppose that's what you get for parking a car in Birmingham! :p

i just had i thought. my disco 1 steering wheel looks very similar to the sierra mk1 steering wheel my dad had with only the oval badges looking different, obviously. might be worth a punt. or maybe be one from an XR2/3/4 etc
