Lots of things emerge as time goes by and you use your new car more. So I've just noticed that my steering wheel column must be bent. It's the original wheel on a tratter. The word can't be oscilating as it doesn't move side to side like a face fan. Errrmm . how I can explain? My wheel is the face of a clock. if I turn it so 6 is at 12, 6 is an inch higher than the 12 would be. Will the column need rejigging or something?

Is it a 300 tdi steering wheel?
You can get some movement in the column L/R & up/down this is done on the bulkead in the engine bay

Do you mean your steering wheel is kind of egg shaped? Mine is, I thought it was just another "defender character thing"
Wheel looks round, but instead of turning .... hard to put into words ... if the round wheel was centred it would turn exactly the same, so it turns off centre

Yep you can adjust in the engine bay. Think it's 4 bolts on slots
great. cheers for that. It was just when I was doing the handle I noticed. Heart sank and 'quick, get on that there LZ and find out if yer gonna be spending another 500 quid lol

That does sound like the column is bent, that's not the problem with mine
so when you say egg shaped, are you talking about the air pattern the track of the turn would create, or is your wheel is actually egg shaped? I was just saying on a forum you say things on rather than ask questions, and people use the wheel as a handle to get in and out. Maybe that's why yours has gone like an egg?

As I turn my steering wheel from lock to lock you see the height difference of the steering wheel rim from top to bottom against the dash (As a reference point) if that makes sense?

It doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it though.

Just reread your post, if the column was bent wouldn't the boss of the wheel be rubbing against your ignition column shroud in one area?

the steering wheel isnt pivoted at its center with wheels straight the steering wheel sits about an inch higher and about an inch lower if you turn it to 6oclock

Can't visualise it as such, but I think you're basically saying it's how the steering wheel is supposed to turn James (well mine does what you've just said). That's good news. Cheers.

you think that the steering wheel is secured to the column through its center , it isnt the steering wheel is offset
if you turn it 180 degrees it will come closer to your knees

Most cars are like this. The wheel it round or near round. The wheel dun't turn on the centre, it's oftset. So turning lock to lock shows the wheel looking odd but it's how it should be.
