I want to replace my wheel with a smaller after market version, I have found a wheel and a boss for it to all go on, but on my current steering wheel I have an airbag, but the new one does not, now is there any easy way to get the airbag light to stay off in the dash when I fit the new wheel. I know I could take the bulb out, but doesn't it need to be there for the mot?

It's a bit more than being there, it also has to show the SRS test sequence at an MOT.
If you have a passenger side air bag which u wish to retain and still functioning there's not much u can do other than perhaps keep the electrical parts minus the air bag still connected some where, but if not just power down the system and remove.
Or as u say remove the bulb.

Ask around. I know that there are guys who have removed airbags and fooled the system into thinking that it's still there.
Mind you it can be a dangerous business unless you know what you're doing. Not just airbags going off but if you trigger some SRS ECUs they can't be reset, only replaced.

So 2 questions
How easy is it remove the whole airbag system if it can be done?
If i just replace the steering group wheel and leave the airbag unplugged will it affect the system at all them when the mot comes around replace with current wheel to get airbag light to come on and go off as it should?

Easy enough to do according to my Haynes manual for the steering wheel, that's after powering down the system for a short while before starting.
The ECU can be left in place plus the under bonnet crash sensors if u have them.
You'll soon get fed up with that, is not that straight forward in changing over with the rotary coupling being involved each time.

I too am interested in removing the air bag system for the comp truck. Will removing the SRS ecu cause the system to be entirely redundent? then I can just rip it all out (carefully of course, dont want to get smacked by one going off)

If the examiner knows it had SRS installed, isn't it an MOT fail nowadays if airbags are removed?
(I doubt the examiner would know in a Disco 1, but presumably a Disco2 is a no-no...)

This is what the MOT testers manual states for a reason for rejection.
"An airbag obviously missing or defective."
But that that is not the issue in this thread, is it?.
But the 'how to' remove is, and then fit a non SRS steering wheel is.

Why would you willingly remove a safety feature and surely there must be Insurance implications if you do?
Yes it's not ideal removing it but it's uncomfortable as my legs are massive and actually touch on the bottom of it while driving so was after fitting a smaller wheel and it's even worse off road bouncing about etc it actually bruises my legs so this is not ideal either
Not wishing to insult your intelligence, but is the steering wheel adjusted to its highest position? There's not a huge range of adjustment, but I'm a big fella and I have plenty of room!!

on my 1995 i dont have any airbags. so if you're not bothered about SRS why not take the system out on both sides, removing srs ecu and therefore light wont come on? i've got a handle and cubby box type thing instead of passenger bag.
