the previous owner had cut a section out of front cross member to try to lube the idler which was seized. we tried jacking with steel on the shaft and a 28 pound hammer (they do exist)
Nothing moved but the chassis bent.
Then we decided to rebuild the relay with new parts from a new relay. so we did a bench strip down and assembly with the top uppermost on a new one to practise. It is not fun! the spring will remove your fingers or teeth----after 2 days of f@@king about with it, we managed to reassemble it. the thought of doing it again out in the mud did not inspire us, so yesterday i decided to make a puller. today, after many mods we pulled the B@st@rd out... over 1000nm torque on a high strength M24 bolt, AND a gentle tap from our tapometer were required. I may tidy up the tool and hire it out.....
