Just had a drive of a mate's 2001disco very td5 auto. He is complaining about steering having a mind of its own tramlining and following camber.
It has ace and std fitment 18" wheels. He has replaced front springs to try and sort out stance but still sits a bit low at drivers side. Shock mounts bushes track rod ends fine.
So I started thinking well its a disco2 and they aren't the last word in vehicle dynamics.
Then I drove it 2 miles there 2 miles back on dales road. As I came over a rise at 55 and the camber changed it tried very hard to pull me into verge. There was a definate resistance on the steering wheel not wanting me to correct. I have owned exactly the same model so I know what they should be like. At lower speeds there wasn't a problem.
I'm already thinking tracking while I write this so I'll call him and check if he's had it checked.
Any other ideas please?

The 18 "s do have a tendency to follow cambers alot more than the 16" s.
Ensure tyre pressures are spot on. Steering damper OK?

That what the local lr garage told him about 18s

Steering damper- it wasn't a shimmy, it was an "I'm going this way, try and stop me!"

I've text him about tracking, not replied yet. Where it happened could be a symptom of toe out

jack it up, see if excess play in steering box, mine sort of did this on 16's. new tyres, 4 wheel alignment, all checked, then adjusted the excess out of steering box been ok since

had the same problems got so bad that I would not drive on motorways it could throw me from 1 lane into the next had every thing checked and anything that was even suspicious was changed but nothing made any difference in the end the only thing left was the tyres changed from pirells to g grabbers and it was like driving a completely different motor try changing the tyres front to back and see if it makes any difference tom
