Having a bit of nightmare having decided to sort out the rather crap left and full lock - it being about 20% larger turning circle than turning right. The M12 hex bolt and locking nut were bent but effectively stopping the left turn (by stopping the RHOS wheel travel. So I removed the bolt (tried to adjust it after a couple of weeks soaking with easing oil - the head sheared). Upon extraction, the M12 was bent about 30 degrees at about the point of the locking nut.
Fitted anew M12 bolt & nut - started to make adjustments to get the left turn a bit tighter and after two adjustments found the new bolt bent such that it was sliding down the face of the axel flange. Are these 'stops' some high grade steel bolt ? Is there a landrover part No ?
Im sure Ive seen picture of these hex heads stopping against a steel plate fitted to the flange around the axel ends ? Nothing on my 110 TD5 2002.
Image below shows what came out after chewing the end with a pair of gilbows best (head having sheared off). Slightly concerning the power steering can bend the thing without me feeling anything.
As things stand, Ive no stop on the off side - no more m12 fixings.

you must have tall tyres as normally they arent wound out that much
they are sh112505 they are standard bolts ie 8.8 you could buy some m12 x 50mm x 12.9 or 10.5

Im running 265/75/R16 - Ive checked the head of the sheared bolt after rooting about in the bin 8.8 grade pretty standard. Im wondering If I should make up a spacer to stiffen things up a bit - cant see it would hurt as long as It stays put.

yes early 90s and 110s had a shouldered bolt you couldnt adjust the stop but then standard wheels were the norm a piece of thick tube or some m12 nuts

Once I get a dimension I will make up a shoulder bolt. But everytime I tried an adjustment the bolt bent and rubbing ensued. PITA. Thanks for the reply. Feeling slightly less insane. Mat

What about just using loads of washers as the spacer tube? easy to adjust in the future.
