I have this issue on my fl2 56plate. Its odd as at tge same time the heated seats sropped working but light on switch still comes on also the airbag light has come on.
Is there any computer that could of gone down in this vehicle.
I really do not want to get rid of this car as its a dream to drive and does everything i want.
Has anyone managed to completely resolve this issue.
Its odd that if i remive the positive terminal for a few seconds the car starts bit all other issues still there.

A diagnostic is needed. There are about 30 different computer modules responsible for different aspects of vehicle component control.
A full diagnostic is the only real way to identify the issue.

Can you suggest an obd scanner nd diagnostic tool for this vehicle

Good afternoon to everyone.
My name is Chris and i own a 2007 Freelander 3200cc.
The car was bought 20 months ago as i sold my 2006 Audi 3,2.
My Freelander is a fantastic car but i faced the same problem "steering column locked" from day 1.
I went to many workshops and electricians for over 4 months trying to solve the problem
For weeks i had to take out the battery pole to reset and start my car
I was almost without solution but i was lucky because i own a mercedes sportscoupe of 2009 and my mercedes mechanic found and fixed the problem..
And the whole mess came out if a malfunctioning instrument cluster.
Since then i an enjoying a fantastic ride with a car that runs perfectly and 3 months ago i installed a Stag LPG and now i have 320km with 30€ of lpg..i hope my experience helps some of you...

I had this same issue and resolved it with a small hammer!
Remove the plastic steering column cover at the bottom, extend the steering wheel to it's fullest extent and pull it up to give yourself a bit of room and then repeatedly tap the steering lock module with reasonable force whilst inserting the key.
It's a metal (Volvo branded) part which sits under the steering column (see pics).
I've learned that it sometimes seizes and can be freed up again with a hearty tap. The suggestion is that if this resolves it, you should replace the part, which should be relatively straight forward and cheaper than LR's many software related 'fixes'. Or, just carry on driving round with a small hammer in the glovebox in case it happens again!
I had to keep whacking for a good 5 minutes before it worked for me but eventually I heard the familiar Zzzzk sound of the module unlocking when I put the key in one time and lo, the error was gone and the car started.
It has happened again one time since, and a hearty tap, then key out & key in sorted it once again...
I've put a couple of pictures here, taken from the foot-well pointing up at the part in question, which I hope will help.

Bugün bu hata ile karşılaştık. Denedik ve çalıştı araba. Teşekkür ederiz. Büyük bir masraftan kurtardın bizi. Kahramansın
