When taking my sieve of a steering box off on my 90 I discovered the tie bar had sheared in 2. (source of loud bang discovered!)
The one I took off has slots for mounting it to the steering box, the replacement has holes.
On the slotted tie bar it is a snug fit for the steering box mounting bolts, on the replacement it is very not snug. See pictures below.

Have I got the right part or do I need to go scavenge for a slotted tie bar?

When I replaced my tie bar it was similar. When you fit it you only nip the bolts up then go for a short drive then tighten everything up properly its to allow everything to settle in natural position.

So just chuck a washer on and nip it up? then nip it up some more? I can only do some big 3 point turns at the moment and the next time it goes on the road is to the MOT centre.

its a slack fit so that once tightened up it doesnt pull on the steering box nip all bolts before fully tightening any ,you dont need to go for a drive

The Part number for the washers are 217245 JM maybe right about going for a drive. I can't remember who or if I read it in a manual said about going for a drive just know thats what I did then gave bolts and the large nut a final torque after a quick spin round the block.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but does anybody know the difference between bh607161l and bh607191l and also why the latter is not available?
