Hi to all,
With the 110's front on axle stands and wheels clear of the ground, engine off, while putting the steering in full lock left to right I am experiencing some play in the steering. With the steering wheel and wheels in the straight ahead position, if the steering wheel is rocked left and right the play is minimal, however if the steering is turned almost full lock left or right and then rocked back and forth there is significant play/slack felt at the wheel.
Should I attempt to reduce this play in these positions by making the adjustment to the steering box with the allen head screw and lock nut? (I know this should be done with discretion to avoid damage to the steering box internals). What are your opinions on this one?

Before adjusting anything I would check every ball joint/swivels/steering column ujs etc to make sure all is spot on.
I think you will find all steering boxes set ups have the play you have to some degree.
Im not sure what the max play at the wheel is on a car, but on a hgv you are allowed 3 inches of free play measured at the steering wheel, this is only ever checked in the straight ahead position.

Only make adjustments with wheels straight ahead.Turn allen screw until contact is made then back off a bit and tighten lock nut being careful not to move the allen head as you do so. There will always be some slack at full lock.

there will play in either lock by the way steering box is designed ,it is only when steering box is central that there shouldnt be any,

Thanks for the replies. I'll leave it alone then, as when it is stright ahead there is no play.
