hi guys, first post
so here goes
i have just bought my first range rover 1996 4.6 HSE petrol RHD
i know a bit about hitting cars with hammers but, i just wanna check before i swear.

the guy i bought it off had drag links and ball joints done by a fantastic blind guy at xmas
car drives great but my steering wheel is at ten to four instead of 3:45

I could remove steering wheel n correct it but i dont wanna play with air bags and all that,
question is. can i just undo intermediate shaft and move it to correct posistion?

cheers

First make sure the Steering box is centralised (instructions in RAVE) then if the SW is still out, you *may* be able to do it from the intermediate splined UJ but the official procedure is to remove and realign the SW itself...

Its all in RAVE.

He has not adjusted the drag link properly. With wheels directly ahead, run forwards at least two car lengths to self centre steering. Remove drag link from drop arm and centralise steering wheel. Adjust drag link length until it drops back in drop arm. Tighten TRE. Drive and note any slight offset. Remove this by adjusting length of drag link as needed.

nice job to do tomorrow after i change the blend motor

many thanks

Mine is slightly off as well, I was going to take it the local tyre fitters and get them to do the tracking. Is that a bad idea then?

Tracking must be good first before drag link is adjusted. If tracking is good, and steering shafts have not been played with, or steering wheel removed and incorrectly refitted, then drag link adjustment is used to adjust any small error of up to 5 degrees.

ok attacked the problem, it turns out the ball joint that was fitted has way too long a thread, thats why they couldnt get steering wheel correct, grinder and refit,, tickity boo now
